Obituary of Eugene Lloyd
Gene was born at Viking, Alberta on May 21, 1943 and passed away suddenly at home on May 6, 2013 at the age of 69 years. He was the oldest of 3 living children born to Jack and Hattie Lloyd. (An infant boy Calvin was born in 1939 and died shortly after birth). A sister, Marian followed in 1948 and a brother Brian in 1950. The family lived on a little farm by Jarrow, Alberta and then moved to Hardisty in the early 1950's and resided on a farm south of the town on old Highway 13. Gene loved being around horses, and every year at the Hardisty Stampede, would ride his decorated pony in the Parade. Eugene went to Hardisty school up to grade eight. He found schooling hard and at the age of 15 he left school to work as a hired hand for Henry Rombough, where he was at home breaking horses and doing farm work. That was the beginning of many jobs Gene would have as a farm hand until he found"Trucking". Gene loved "driving truck" and spent most of his life driving for a living. Gibson's Oil as well as a few other trucking companies would come to know Gene as an excellent and reliable driver. Gene married Mary Norris in 1967. Two children were born to this union. Rodney Quinten and Nicerata Lynn. Mary was young and struggled with the duties of being a wife and mother, so the couple separated when the children were very young.
Eugene had just started his 27th season working for the Flagstaff County. He enjoyed his Off Season, puttsing around with, and wheeling and dealing vehicles. Marian never knew what colour or kind of vehicle he would show up at her place in Wainwright. He enjoyed his "coffee time" at the Killam Crossing. The last few years you would find him most weekends in Galahad at Nica's helping her and Rod with work around the house and yard. Gene always had a ready smile and a kind word for everyone. He always had time to "help someone out". Eugene will be truly missed by his family and many friends and co-workers.
He is survived by his sister Marian Emter; his son Rodney Lloyd; his daughter Nica Emter; two grandchildren Jesse and Leaha Emter; his nephew Brian Emter (Darci) and their children Breaana, William, Matthew and Tiffany; his niece Tara Emter (Dean) and their children Wyatt and Emily.
Gene was predeceased by his parents John and Hattie; one brother Brian and an infant brother Calvin.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Sedgewick Community Hall. Memorial donations in memory of Gene may be made to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation.
