Obituary of Hazel Skoberg
Hazel Margaret Skoberg was born on May 3, 1924 in Hawkeye, Saskatchewan. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 31, 2013 in the Killam Health Care Centre at the age of 88 years.
Hazel was the third of ten children born to Arthur and Elsie Smith. She took most of her schooling in Hawkeye, finishing her grade 12 in Shellbrook, Saskatachewan.
She moved to Ontario during the Second World War where she found work in a munitions factory, working on an assembly line building Lancaster Bombers. It was there that she met Mervin Skoberg.
Mervin and Hazel were married in 1943 and moved to Lougheed in 1945 where their three children were born and raised.
She loved all that came with being a farmer's wife and was actively involved with many organizations within the community over the years.
Hazel is survived by her three children, Ken (Birthe) Skoberg, Linda Skoberg, and Gwenda (Garland) Poyser; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; brother-in-law Les Cattell of Saskatoon; sisters-in-law Maxine Smith of Shellbrook, Margaret Skoberg of Cranbrook, Joyce Wilcox of Camrose and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Mervin in 2008
She was greatly loved and will be missed.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, February 8, 2013 at the Lougheed Community Hall at 2:00 p.m. Lunch will follow.
Donations may be made to the Lougheed Cemetery, St. Andrew's United Church or to a charity of ones choice.
