Obituary of Pat Martin
James Patrick (Pat) Martin was born on July 20, 1951 in Killam and passed away in Edmonton at the U of A Hospital on February 5, 2021 at the age of 69 years. Pat was the fourth child of Francis Sr. and Marie Martin.
He grew up on the family farm north of Lougheed; he worked on pipelines, for various farmers in the area as a farm hand and the Lougheed Seed Plant for a number of winters. His true love was farming. Pat married Kim Cox on June 24, 1978 and lived on the family farm, together raised 3 boys Jim, Ken and Byron. Pat taught the boys the value of hard work and the pride of a job well done. Pat also worked as a gas plant operator for 25 years which he was dedicated to.
In October 2005, we moved into Lougheed, retiring from the farm and then Ken and Brenda took over the farming duties. Pat continued to work at the gas plant until the fall of 2016 when he retired. After a 4 month retirement he started driving feed truck for Killam Farm and Feed in between golf, cards, bowling, and curling. He loved sitting in the back yard as he loved all of the flowers.
Pat is survived by his loving wife Kim and three sons Jim (Lisa), Ken (Brenda) and Byron (Jodi), six grandchildren Rylan, Porter, Brianna, David, William and Blake, two brothers Ab and Pete and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his dad, mom, sister Melonie and mother-in-law Kay Cox.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Pat can be made to the Sedgewick Golf Club, Lougheed Library and Lougheed Seniors or a charity of the donor’s choice.
