My deepest condolences to Joan and Bill's immediate family. I had had the pleasure to work with Bill for approximately 15 years as the then Director Corporate Insurance of Air Canada. Bill was a true friend to me and he gave his utmost to Air Canada and those other airlines that had named him broker of record. His loss is a deep loss to the aviation insurance industry. I know that the past several years had been difficult for Bill on many levels, with the passing of Rosalie and his own subsequent health issues that never seemed to be resolved.
Rest in peace Bill, we will miss your presence.

My sincerest condolences to Bill's family at this very sad time. Returning to Calgary today to pay my respects I recall all the great times I had here with Bill doing business and playing and watching sport with him. He was one of the few people I have looked up to during my career because he excelled at his job and more importantly he was a great person who would do anything for family and friends. Goodbye my friend.

To the James Family,
My deepest condolences to the family. I have many fond memories of Bill, some of which take me back to the 1980's when we worked in the Calgary office of the same company, and many of which are linked fondly to my late husband. Bill was a a great and loyal friend and colleague, and a fierce competitor when he needed to be. No one has more integrity than Bill and the team he led for so many years. He was an example to all who knew him. Regardless what was happening with him personally, Bill always came through for others in their time of need. May he rest in peace. My love and prayers go out to you.

On behalf of my wife Irene and I, our sincerest condolences to Bill's family.
I worked with Bill from 1972 until I retired in 2004 in two cities and with four different employers, and it is hard to believe he is gone. He was a constant in my working life, and there was never a dull moment.

I am very sad to hear of Bill’s passing.
Bill would often reach out to me for some assistance, from a phone number to help with expense reports and for many years he would send me a beautiful Christmas arrangement. He had a big heart and will be truly missed.
My deepest sympathy to Bill’s family and friends. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Bill was an outstanding colleague and friend throughout the fourteen years I led the Canadian company. We are all proud to have had him as part of a globally leading aviation brokerage business in Canada which he built. Our major clients were all staunchly loyal to Bill, and with good cause; his technical and negotiating skills were unmatched and he continually amazed us with the deals he would return from his constant travels with, against all odds !
Bill took no prisoners on behalf of his colleagues when negotiating, as the consummate leader he would go to great lengths to ensure that their wellbeing, recognition and rewards were in the forefront, rarely promoting himself.
To my mind, likely the greatest Canadian aviation broker icon has passed, larger than life, headstrong, stubborn and brilliant, but genuine and caring, the hallmarks of an outstanding leader.
Heartfelt Condolences to all his family, I am sure you are feeling the loss of someone who was "Larger than life."
Alan Garner, Chairman, Marsh Canada Limited

Bill was a consummate professional in all that he did. The client was always paramount in his thinking.
As a human being Bill was up there with the best. His seemingly gruff manner hid a heart of gold.
He was generous towards his colleagues and completely supportive when the need arose.
He will be sorely missed.
Wilko.

Condolence to Bill's family and friends.
We grew up together in Killam, Alberta and went to Public and High school.
Bill was a very good athlete and played all kinds of sports and was always a valuable team member. In one hockey game he was behind the net; saw that the goalie was looking for the pass, Bill shot the puck off of the goalies butt and into the net.
He was the first town kid to get a Honda 50 and would blast around town giving rides.
Although I haven't seen or talked to Bill for a long time, I do have a lot of happy childhood memories of Bill and the people of Killam.

Bill was a beacon of the Canadian Aviation Insurance industry, but foremost a gentleman. He has done much to secure our industry after the tragic events of September 11, 2001 by convincing the Government of Canada to underwrite excess war risk at a time where the costs could have been impossible to pay for many participants.
My deepest condolences to his family and colleagues for this loss.
He will stay in our hearts
