Obituary of Yvonne Lockhart
Yvonne Lockhart of Tofield (formerly Strome) passed away peacefully on December 21, 2015 at the age of 83 years. Yvonne is survived by her children Brad (Susan), Denise, and Darren; grandchildren Ryan (Terra), Carly and Megan; great grandchildren Easton and Sean; her twin brother Winston (Lena) Johanson; Aunt Doris Johnson, several sisters-in-law, cousins, and numerous nephews, nieces and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Noel on April 2, 2015.
Yvonne was born at Red Deer on October 12, 1932 to Carl and Julia Johanson. Her family resided in the Burnt Lake District close to Sylvan Lake, Alberta.
Yvonne attended the Burnt Lake School from grades 1 - 11 and completed her grade 12 in Red Deer. She took nurses training at Archer Memorial Hospital in Lamont and passed her RN exam in 1955. After completing nurses training, she attended the Christian Training Institute in Edmonton for one year and then returned to nurse in the Red Deer General Hospital. She met Noel in 1958 and in order to get to know him better, she worked at a doctor's office and the Killam Hospital before being married on November 7, 1959. They spent their first winter living in Killam before moving out to a new house that Noel had built for them on the farm in 1960. She worked at home raising her family until 1977. After that she returned to nursing at the Killam Auxiliary Hospital until she retired in 1994.
Yvonne was known throughout the area for her ability to play the piano and sing. Over the years, she used these gifts to serve others regularly at church, numerous weddings and funerals, as well as helping out with the weekly Bible Study and Hymn Sing at the Killam Auxiliary Hospital. She also taught Sunday School and led Girls Club for many years Her Christian faith was of utmost importance to her and this was reflected in how she conducted herself and lived her life.
Due to failing health in 2011, she and Noel moved to Providence Place in Daysland, AB where they resided until May, 2013. Further decline resulted in a move to the Tofield Long Term Care Centre. She resided there until her final move on December 21 to life everlasting with Jesus in whom she had placed her faith and trust many years ago.
