Obituary of Eldon Oberg

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eldon Oberg on May 9, 2012 at the age of 84 years. He will always be remembered with love by his wife Agnes, children Neal (Brenda Mathews) Oberg, Janet (Fred) Peacock and Lyle (Evelyn) Oberg; grandhildren Colin (Christine) Oberg, Todd (Tanya) Oberg, Geoff (Caroline) Oberg, Tammy (Brian) Gratrix, Janelle (Cam) Ivey, Lindsay (Kyle) Reiling, Jillian (Tyler) Oberg-Goodheart, and Scott Oberg as well as 14 great-grandchildren and numerous extended members and friends. He was predeceased by wife Lenora, parents Knute and Jonetta, sisters Jane, Inga, and Ethel, brothers Floyd, Clarence, Claude, Lester and Victor and grandson Blake. Our father died suddenly after playing his best round of golf in the past three years. He will always be remembered for his love of baseball, in his younger years, and golf and curling in his later years. He was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 2005 for his contribution to sports in Alberta and served as the president of the Northern Alberta Curling Association in 1980/81. He was Forestburg Citizen of the Year in 1986, was given an Honorary Life membership in the Forestburg Golf Club in 1987, and in the Forestburg Curling Club in 1998. In 1992 he received the 125th Anniversary of Canada Commemorative Medal in recognition of his significant contribution to compatriots, community, and to Canada. Eldon was a huge advocate for small town Alberta and served as Mayor of Forestburg from 1982 to 1992. The funeral will take place at 2:00p.m. on Monday, May 14th at the Forestburg Community Hall. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the charity of your choice.
