Verna was born on November 14, 1944 to Clifford and Florence Breum of Forestburg. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Mourning her loss are husband, Bill Gibb; daughter, Shauna; daughter, Tammy and her husband Bud; grandchildren Izaya, Marcy, and Scott; great-grandchildren Ethan, Lincoln and Bentley; chosen sister, cousin Audrey Frizzell and her husband Robert; and a host of extended family and friends. Verna was predeceased by her parents, Clifford and Florence Breum; parents-in-law, Ken and Helen Gibb; brother, Jim Breum; sister-in-law Phyllis Erickson; brother-in-law, Vern Erickson; and great-grandson, Jacob Lazarick.
Verna grew up on a farm in the Pleasington area. She married Bill Gibb in 1965, and they moved on to the Gibb family farm southwest of Killam, farming the land and raising Angus beef.
Verna was an Educational Assistant at Killam Public School in a career spanning 25 years, and is fondly remembered by many of her former students.
Verna loved flowers. She grew peonies and gladiolus, that she would cut and skillfully arrange in bouquets to display throughout the house.
She was an avid Calgary Stampeders football fan, with she and Bill travelling to home games for many years as season ticket holders.
Verna’s journey with cancer was a hard one, with many ups and downs along the way. Special thank you to all her caregivers who, through your kind words and deeds, helped her along the way.
A memorial service will be held at the Pleasington Lutheran Church at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 27, 2024. If you are unable to attend at the church, please join the family for lunch and fellowship at Killam Community Hall, starting at 3:00 pm.
