Obituary of Marj Fossum

Marjorie Mabel Fossum, born on August 22, 1939, in Galahad, Alberta, peacefully passed away on December 15, 2023.  She leaves behind a legacy of love, community spirit, and cherished memories. Marj, as she was affectionately known, spent her early years in Killam, Alberta, as the eldest of three siblings. She is survived by her siblings, Velma Armitage (Jim) and Donald Young (Barb).

Prior to getting married, Marj worked at the Treasury Branch bank in Killam.   On January 17, 1958, she married the love of her life, Wes Fossum, and together they established a warm and welcoming home on a farm outside of Hardisty. It was there that they lovingly raised their four children.

An active and dedicated member of her community, Marj contributed over 50 years of service to the Royal Purple, exemplifying her commitment to making a positive impact. Her passion for sewing, gardening, and community service echoed her vibrant spirit, and she generously shared her time and talents with those around her.

Marjorie's favorite moments were spent surrounded by family, and she cherished the times when the entire family gathered.

Marj was predeceased by her beloved husband, Wes, as well as her parents, Bruce and Adelpha Young, her sons Brian and Daryl and her sister-in-law Barbara Young. She is survived by her siblings, son Brent (Jo-Ann), daughter Donna (Jim), daughter-in-law Sherry Ruud, daughter-in-law Kris Mackey, and her grandchildren Rob, Candise, Tara, Nikki, Whitney, Phoebe, Kirsten, Ryan, Liam and step-grandchildren Erin and Kenny.  Marjorie also leaves behind a legacy in her many great-grandchildren.

Marjorie will be remembered not only for her unwavering dedication to family and community but also for the love and kindness she shared with everyone she encountered. Her spirit lives on through the countless memories and the enduring impact she made on the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. In celebrating her life, let us reflect on the joy, warmth, and love that Marj brought to all who were touched by her presence.

Celebration of Life will be held at the Hardisty Elks Hall on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 2:00 pm.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Providence Place in Daysland and at the Killam Health Care Centre for their compassionate care and support during Marj's time there.

In honoring Marj's memory, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to STARS Air Ambulance or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Association.
