I'm so sorry I won't be able to attend the celebration of Auntie Lil's life. She was such a part of the fabric of my growing up that it's difficult to picure her as "not there". Spending weekends at the Farm helped shape me into who I am today. Having to do chores: helping Laurie and Deanna weed Auntie Lil's massive garden; driving down the majestic spruce-lined driveway; shelling bowls and bowls of peas; doing "super-duper dishes" (that meant as fast as we could when Laurie, Deanna and I were the "dishwasher"). Hot summer days swimming in the slough and playing in the coolness of the spruce trees behind the house; dressing up to go to a wedding on Saturday night; playing cricket on the lawn with the adults after a day's work, Uncle Emil and Auntie Lil - but especially beautiful Auntie Lil - were solid fixtures of my childhood. She was mistress of her domain: capable and efficient; a wonderful cook; she taught and guided all us kids. Her sparkling eyes and her easy chuckling laugh will live in my heart. I will miss her and am so grateful for the memories.
