Obituary of Reinder Schuurman
Reinder Schuurman was born in the family home “De Uitkomst (The Outcome) in Empe, Gelderland, Holland on August 12, 1940, to Karl and Deanna Schuurman. Reinder passed away on Tuesday November 23, 2021 in Edmonton, AB at the age of 81 years.
Reinder’s family emigrated to Canada when Reinder was 8 years old, in 1948 to Viking Alberta, and he grew up in the Viking/Killam area.
On July 23, 1960 Reinder married Isobell Usselman and together they raised their 3 sons Jim, Brent and Mervin. Reinder was a Graderman at heart, and loved working in the construction, and soil reclamation, especially building acreage sites for people, and spent many years in construction as the owner/operator of R&I Schuurman Construction.
Reinder, enjoyed spending time with family and friends camping, sitting around the fire and time with his horses, and was actively involved in the community.
Reinder is survived by his sons, Brent (Steven) of Calgary, Mervin (Karla) of Edberg; his partner Margaret Yarmuch; brother Carl (Debbie) of Sedgewick; grandchildren Jessica, Gavin, Mitchel, Deanna, MacKenzie and Madi; two great-grandchildren Jack, and Jackson and numerous nieces and nephews and other family and friends in Alberta, Ontario and Holland.
Reinder was pre-deceased by his wife Isobell, son Jim, parents Karl and Deanna, brother Henry and sister Hedy.
A graveside service will be held at the Sedgewick Cemetery on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. The family will be hosting a gathering of fellowship and remembrance on Reinder’s acreage in the spring of 2022. Memorial donations in memory of Reinder may be made to the Sedgewick Cemetery, the Stars Air Ambulance or a charity of the donor’s choice.
