Obituary of Clarence Swanson
Clarence Gilbert Swanson
March 10, 1928 - February 25, 2015
Clarence was the third child born to Gilbert and Clara (Backen) Swanson at Sedgewick. He attended Sunlight School until grade eight when he decided to become a farmer, which was his main occupation for more than forty years.
While farming and to augment the finances, he assisted friends in the electrician and carpentry trades. Knowledge and experience gained was useful all his life.
He married Shirley (Enger) Tetlock in 1959 and they had three children: Gilbert Ole, Stanley Ralph and Christine Gladys. As they were growing, many miles were driven for their activities.
When it came time to let someone else do the farming, he rented the land and developed several hobbies. He converted an old well house into a cozy shop and made many objects from wood. He especially enjoyed making models of old machinery, cars, trains and tracks. He peeled many maple and caragana branches to make canes. Meanwhile, he always found time to read and camp with our fifth wheel.
After many years of dealing with diabetes and heart problems, he passed away in the Killam hospital on February 25th. He is survived by his wife Shirley, son Stanley, daughter Christine and her daughter Jennifer, as well as sisters Norma Hogstead and Olga Thompson and their families. Sadly, son Ole passed away in 2011. His parents and brothers Harold and Ralph and sister Gladys Christenson have also passed away.
We are grateful for the care Clarence received over the years by various medical staff and the care and concern by family and friends.
A memorial service will held at Fee & Sons Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Clarence may be made to the Killam & District Health Care Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
