Obituary of Albert Jones
Albert Jones was born to Hanna and Edwin Jones on July 19, 1929 in a farmhouse near Lougheed. He was the youngest son in a family of seven that included Dave, Agnes, Jack, Percy, Lily, and Gwladys.
Bert grew up helping his parents on the family farm in the Melbrae area north of Hardisty. In his early twenties he spent winters working in BC's logging camps while returning to farm each spring and fall.
In 1955, Bert met and married Marie Griek of Lacombe, AB. They spent their first 9 years together in Lamming Mills, B.C., and in 1965 moved back to Alberta to farm. Bert and Marie eventually settled in the Merna area where they worked together to build up their farm and raise a family.
They had six children: Judy, Dale, Eddie, Debbie, Robert and Lorie. These children in turn blessed Bert with his greatest joy, 15 grandchildren: Shawn, Janelle (predeceased), Chris, Angela, Kevin, Braeden, Dean, Dylan, Miranda, Tanner, Koltyn, Mikayla, Emily, Connor, and Kaylie; and 2 great-grandchildren: Alex and Xavier.
On August 30, 2013, Albert passed away at the Killam Health Care Centre after a year-long struggle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren in his final days as he fought his way towards a peaceful rest. He is loved and will be missed by all who called him Dad, Grandpa, or friend.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the Sedgewick Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Pastor Bob Burke officiating.
