Myrna Morken

Obituary of Myrna Morken

On July 14, 2013 Myrna Eleanor Morken of Killam, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Killam Health Care Centre at the age of 93 years. Myrna was born January 9, 1920 at Hawarden, Saskatchewan to Merriam and Martha Carlson on the farm. She was the second of fourteen children. Myrna enjoyed music, dancing, gardening, judging at fairs, travelling to Las Vegas, Norway, Sweden, Hawaii and Australia, playing cards and spending time with her family. She loved sewing, selling Tupperware, making big delicious meals for everyone and enjoyed a glass of Baby Duck every New Years! A good shot of rum now and again was a treat too. She was an avid 4H leader for many years. She helped out on the farm with baling, and hauling grain, wearing an old fur coat when it was bitter cold. Afternoon coffee or tea at the farm was always enjoyed by anyone who stopped in. She loved picking Saskatoon's, and taking family vacations when her kids were young. The Killam Health Care nurses told how they loved her sense of humor, as they came into her room, she would pretend she was asleep and yell "boo" to give the girls a good scare! Myrna loved her family very much and was so proud of each and every one of them. Her gentle nature and loving ways will forever remain in the hearts of us all. Myrna is survived by her daughter Lois Morken, daughter Phyllis Jacobsen and her sons Gary(Bea-Jae), Craig (Angela), son Lloyd Morken (Diane) and their children Lisa (Mark), Kim (Jason), Dean (Rosanne), Karen (Darrell), Darren (Jen), son Doug Morken and his sons Ian (Crystal) and Travis (Shelly) and daughter Eunice Richter (Brian) and their sons Jason and Justin. Myrna was very proud to have 23 great-grandchildren to her family ~ Bradley, Courtney, Luke, Lacey, Zoey, Kiana, Lily, Tristan, Kaylee, Gavin, Abby, Cassidy, Trinity, Hunter, Alex, Aiden, Kaelyn, Keegan, Skylar, Macy, Wyatt, Dayton and Beau. Myrna was predeceased by her parents, her husband Carsten, brother's Gordon, Raymond, Leslie, Murray, Stanley and Lelland and sisters Viola and Lois, son-in-law Ken Jacobsen and great granddaughter Madison Morken. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 18th at the Bethania Lutheran Church in Sedgewick. A private family interment will take place at the Bethania Lutheran Cemetery.
