Obituary of Roy Johnson

It is with deep sadness that the family announce the passing of Roy Carl Johnson of Killam, Alberta on December 28, 2023 at 79 years.

Roy was born in Hardisty, Alberta on March 11, 1944 to Carl and Louella Johnson of Sedgewick.  Roy attended school in Sedgewick and later moved to Edmonton. He held numerous jobs in the oilfield for a number of years. Then it was time for a change. He was always interested in fixing things. In 1963 he enrolled in NAIT for a career as an automotive mechanic which he excelled at and took pride in everything he did. Agriculture and the wide-open spaces were always in the back of his mind. Weekends were always spent on the family farm.

On January 17,1969 Roy married his best friend, Leda Efrom. They welcomed their daughter Carrie in January 1975 and son Garth in February 1980. In the spring of 1979, they purchased their farm north of Killam and began their farming operation together.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Leda, of 53 years, Garth (Keltie), Rylee and Owen Johnson, Carrie Johnson, Brandi (Cody) Bryant and Austin, Holly (John) Chisholm, Christen, Tina, Kaylan and April, sister-in-law Marj (George) Stanko, brothers Keith Johnson, Dale (Thora) Johnson, and sister Edith Cookson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Roy was a loving husband, father, and grandpa, proud of his children and grandchildren. Roy left a lasting impression on everyone who met him and he will be forever remembered and missed by all.

Roy was predeceased by his parents Carl and Louella Johnson, brother Clayton (Sheila) Johnson, sister Ann (Norman) Walsh and brother-in-law Cliff Cookson.

A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Hanton, Dr. Rami and staff at the Killam Long Term Care for their compassionate care of Dad received.

As per Roy’s wishes, a funeral service will not be held.
