Ralph was a true friend and I wish his wife and family all the best. I will miss him for his honesty and spirit. His annual garage and auction sales were always fun to go to and will be missed by me.

.Ralph Sorenson went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 15, 2020 at the age of 93. After battling cancer, he passed away peacefully with his beloved wife, Jean, at his side. Throughout his life, his priorities were serving God, loving his wife and family, and giving to his community and province. Those who knew him well enjoyed his dry wit that rarely let out a laugh but was clearly displayed in the twinkle in his eye. Ralph was born on March 27, 1927 to Andrew and Mary Sorensen on the family farm, the sixth of seven children. He grew up learning to love the Lord and family, working hard on the farm and playing baseball and hockey. He attended Prairie Park School and Killam High School. All of his free time when he was young was spent outdoors hunting, trapping and playing sports. At an early age, he put his trust in Jesus and was baptized at Sylvan Lake. Having family surround him was extremely important to Ralph. In 1954, Ralph married Jean Rancier and to this union they were blessed with 4 children: Kevin, Leon, Leighton and Janelle. He and Jean built a home next to the original homestead where Ralph was raised. They farmed with his parents until they passed away and then later, continued to farm with his sons. Upon achieving a century of farming, the Sorenson Family Farm was awarded the Century Farm Award in 2007. Music filled their home. He sang for years in many trios, choirs and quartets and encouraged his children to continue this tradition. Politics was a lifelong passion. In 1971, he was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly with the Social Credit Party until 1975. He was a founding member of the Reform Party and served on the local constituency board for many years. Almost everyday, he faithfully tuned into watch Question Period with a keen interest in Canadian politics. Serving God in as many areas as possible, gave Ralph great joy. He was a committed long-term member of Killam Baptist Church where he served faithfully. Along with Jean, they lead the service at Flagstaff Lodge for many years. In leading the Missions Committee, Ralph and Jean initiated the Community Charity Auction and Garage Sale which expanded into supporting many local charities and foundations. For 23 years, many local businesses donated items and time to this worthy cause. Ralph was always so thankful and appreciative of the many donors and those who supported the auction. In Ralph’s later years, this charity auction became his purpose, passion and focus in serving God and those in need. Throughout the years, Ralph was honored with several awards. In 2006, he and Jean were awarded Servant Leaders of the Year for the Baptist General Conference. For his service to the community, he was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal in 2012. He was inducted into the Killam Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2017, he was one of fourteen Albertans to receive a Senate 150th Medal in recognition of significant contributions made to his community. Writing was a pastime that he relished. Unbelievably, he wrote every day in a diary for the past 50 years. He left a legacy of history, news, weather and anecdotes in those journals. His final entry was May 12. Poetry also became a favorite way for Ralph to express his thoughts. He has written countless poems about Bible characters, vacations, and life on the farm. Most of his family and acquaintances were pressured to write a poem in response. In recent times, Ralph and Jean loved spending time during winters in Arizona where he fell in love with the climate and the Superstition Mountains. Ralph enjoyed Baseball Spring Training in Arizona for many years and even celebrated his 90th birthday with all of his family who surprised him at a baseball game. Ralph always found time in later years to enjoy coffee daily with his coffee buddies at the Killam Krossing. He will be buried at Prairie Park Cemetery outside of Killam, where he was the caretaker for many years. He was predeceased by his parents and all but one sibling, Ruth Peterson. Many are left to mourn his loss. His loving and devoted wife, Jean Sorenson; His children and spouses, Kevin and Darlene Sorenson, Leon and Robin Sorenson, Leighton and Laura Sorenson and Janelle and Larry Ness; His grandchildren, Kristen (Matt) Schmidt, Ryan Sorenson, Laina (Curtis) McAusland, Cam (Adele) Sorenson, Joel Sorenson, Jeremy (Olivia) Ness, Janay Ness; His great-grandchildren, Ellie McAusland, Kaden Schmidt; Countless other nephews, nieces and cousins. He will be missed but never forgotten. He has left us an exceptional example of Christian faith, community service and love for family. Memorial donations in memory of Ralph may be made to the Killam Baptist Church, Killam Palliative Care Room c/o Killam & District Health Care Foundation, Prairie Park Baptist Cemetery or a charity of donor's choice.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
