Ernest “Ernie” Patrick Dewald was born in Coronation, Alberta, on June 29th, 1955, the only child of Valentine and Elsie Dewald. He passed away at home on Friday, March 6th, at the age of 70.

Ernie could talk to anyone about anything and had a talent for carrying on a conversation well past its starting point, always with a grin and a clever remark. He loved socializing, sharing laughs, and keeping those around him entertained with his humour and storytelling. After many years working in the oilfield, he enjoyed the slower pace of retirement, spending time watching movies, attending his grandchildren’s activities, and simply being with family and friends. He leaves behind countless memories of laughter, stories, and good times with those who knew him best.

Ernie was predeceased by his wife, Rose; his parents, Valentine and Elsie Dewald; and his father-in-law, Eugene Hoffman.

He is survived by his children: Cody (Jeanene) Dewald and Raelyn (Ryan) Parsons; grand-children: Kinley and Carter Dewald; mother-in-law Mary Hoffman, brother-in-law Dennis (Nancy) Hoffman; and their children Ashley, Deanna and Hayley and his sister-in-law Iva (Vern) Snethun and their children Chad and Tyler.

A celebration of life for Ernie will be held at the Hardisty Community Hall on Thursday, March 26th, 2026 at 1:00 pm. Please join the family for fellowship and refreshments following the service.
