It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Douglas Joseph Hynes at the age of 80 years, in Galahad Alberta.

Doug was born May 21St, 1945 in Holyrood, Newfoundland to the parents of Ethelbert and Philomena Hynes.

Doug was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Whalen (Betty); Denise and stepdaughter Shaunna; brother Vernal, Leo and sister Yvonne.

Leaving to mourn is his son Jamie (Bert); grandsons Shawn (Shandy) and Jonathan (Maddie); special friend Shirley Lawrence; sister Rowena, and Helen; brother Edmond; goddaughter Aeryn Keeping and a large group of nieces, nephews and many family and friends.

Doug’s great passion was his love of restoring old cars, especially old Toyotas.  He was always happy to help friends and family to stay safe on the roads.

Doug loved music and could often be found playing traditional Newfoundland tunes on his accordion!

Doug also loved animals and his dogs were just as much family as any person could be.  He rescued and cared for several dogs including Maggie Mae and Shan-Shan.

Doug was a kind-hearted soul and will be missed.

At Doug’s request, cremation has taken place and celebration of life will be at a later date.

Dad, it will bring me some peace and comfort to believe that you and mom are reunited for eternity.
