“Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity.” Horace Mann I think this quote fits what those who called Dwayne a friend are feeling. The victory was getting his friendship and the humanity he showed us. We hoped that it was a mutual feeling. It was ironic that when I heard of his passing I was watching a movie about D-Day,it made me think of how many young men met thier end sooner than expected. I heard a line from a movie that said “worst part of getting older is remembering when you were young!” Over the last week I tracked down some photos from the “Old Days “,the one after winning a tournament ,Dwayne willing to step in and coach if needed,and the last crossing home to put a run on the board. It the last image that sums up a ball player‘s life,we all hope that when we cross that final plate in life that our effort will be remembered. You will not be forgotten Dippy and will make sure your spoke of often,and by the way say high to our teammates that left us to early and tell them someday will all be back on the diamond again. Rest easy friend!

Dwayne was easily one of my favourite people on this planet! Although I knew Dippy since we were kids we only really became close as young men while playing senior mens baseball for several years together on the Killam Braves. The man had a charismatic personality, sense of humour and giant heart that made it impossible not to like him ..... even when he was chirping you on the diamond or at the cabaret after the games were done! lol. Reflecting back there are countless things I admire about my friend, 3 of which I will list here as I'm sure they are shared by most who knew him as well; 1. His commitment to his community. 2. His commitment to his friends. 3. His commitment to, and immense pride in his kids and their accomplishments. I'd like to extend my family's deepest condolences to Shy, Syd, Landon, Joe and Dianne for the loss of your father and your son. I never met Dwayne but I know Sydney, a young lawyer in Calgary. Dwayne, you made a wonderful young woman. She is smart, insightful, curious, humble yet gritty. Sydney cares about people and wants to hear the stories that lead them to where they are in life. Her and her siblings' loss of you is so profound. But know they will persevere. My heartfelt condolances to my Auntie, Uncle and cousins....and most of all his world, his children. Dwayne was like a big teddy bear and I was greatful to have had some deep conversations with battles we both dealt with and could relate on some levels with NO JUDGEMENT. Despite only knowing Dwayne and his family for about five to six years, he immediately welcomed me into his home as a friend of his son and best friend, Landon. I’ll always remember and cherish the many times I spent out at the lake with him, his family, and his countless friends, sharing stories around the fire, his elite sense of humour, or hitting the water on his boat.
